A solid model, a sustainable growth approach
Voltix, a subsidiary of the VINCI Group, was created in 2023 in
response to the rapid development of electric HGVs.
Voltix is developing its own network of charging stations for
electric heavy goods vehicles, drawing on the experience, knowledge,
business lines and organisation of the VINCI Group.
Building a network of HGV charging stations to meet the needs of the industry
In France for instance, road transport now accounts for 90% of goods
flows and 7% of greenhouse gas emissions. To meet the
decarbonisation targets set by the public authorities, manufacturers
have embarked on the development of battery-electric HGVs, the main
zero-emission exhaust technology. The success of this
electrification depends on the appropriate deployment of the
infrastructure needed for roaming charging.
In January 2024, Europe set decarbonisation targets for heavy goods
vehicles: the aim is to reduce emissions from new heavy goods
vehicles sold from 2030 onwards by 45% compared with 2019, and by
90% in 2040.
VINCI, together with ENEDIS, TotalEnergies and six European
manufacturers (Volvo Trucks, Renault Trucks, Mercedes-Benz Trucks,
MAN Truck & Bus France, Scania and Iveco) have undertaken a study on
electric charging infrastructure for heavy goods vehicles, published
in March 2024. By 2035, roaming charging on France's main roads
could represent an energy demand of up to 3.5 TWh per year (by way
of comparison, France's annual consumption will be around 460 TWh in
2022). Although it seems significant, this energy consumption could
be integrated into the grid without major difficulty. These
requirements would also require the deployment of almost 10,000 CCS*
charging points for long breaks and 2,200 MCS** ultra-fast charging
points by 2035.
Voltix is responding to the strong need to develop charging
infrastructure dedicated to heavy goods vehicles, and is committed
as an expert in the decarbonisation of the road.
* Combined Charging System, used for slow charging of HGVs during
long breaks (70 kW to 100 kW).
** Megawatt Charging System, used for fast charging of HGVs during
short breaks (600 kW and more)
The experience and expertise of a world leader in concessions, energy and construction
Voltix draws on the skills of the VINCI Group, world leader in
concessions, energy and construction in 120 countries, and on its
recognised expertise with the State and local authorities.
Voltix benefits from the Group's experience as :
- the preferred partner of all road hauliers and federations,
- an expert in HGV flows in France and Europe,
- a major player in payment services for road hauliers,
- a pioneer in electric recharging for light vehicles in the design-build and operation-maintenance segments.
Voltix is setting up a network of electric truck recharging stations, drawing on the expertise, skills and organisation of the VINCI Group.
